Mary Elizabeth James, known to us as Marybeth, age 69 died unexpectedly on March 7, 2020 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

She was born in New York in 1950, but spent time  as a child in Wisconsin (10 years) and Minnesota (5 years).  She moved to the Gull Lake area in 1967 and graduated with our class of 1969.  She was a Founding Member and Executive Administrative Assistant for Research and Education at the West Michigan Cancer Center of Kalamazoo for the past 26 years and a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals organization.  She attended Central Michigan University and graduated from Nazareth College, cum laude, with a BA in English and Biology.  She was an advocator for greyhounds and volunteered with Second Chance for Greyhounds and Allies of Greyhounds.  She was involved in community and giving back as a member of the Gull Lake Community Volunteers group.  When she wasn't busy volunteering, she enjoyed taking her dogs for long walks, weaving, sewing, reading, and cooking.She had a daughter and a son and is buried in Ross Center Cemetery.
